Reading Public Library
Conference RoomTax Assistance is available at the Library in partnership with the Pleasant Street Center. To schedule an appointment, call 781-942-6794.
For Reading Residents 60 & over.
YOU MUST CALL THE PLEASANT STREET CENTER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT: 781-942-6794
- Appointments are held at the Library but managed by the Pleasant Street Center.
- Potential clients must bring all income forms received for 2025 income, including 1099s, Social Security statements, brokerage statements, health insurance cards, Social Security cards, last year’s tax return, a photo ID, deductions (if you are itemizing). Even if you do not itemize, bring a list of any cash donations as they may be deductible on your MA tax return.
- Those filing for the Circuit Breaker credit need to bring property tax statements and water bills if you own your home. If you rent your home bring proof of the rental amount you paid out of pocket, and the name and address of your landlord.
- The IRS will no longer accept checks for taxes due, nor will they issue refund checks.
If you owe the IRS, we can set up an electronic funds withdrawal (EFW) directly though the tax software with no fee involved. If you refuse the EFW you must go online to make a payment directly on the IRS website. The IRS accepts direct debits (EFWs) with no fee, or you can pay by credit or debit cards (these have a 3-4% service fee). - If you expect a refund we can set up a direct deposit through the tax software. If you do not provide bank information for direct deposit, the IRS will issue a debit card, which may incur fees when you use the card. Therefore, we strongly suggest that all clients provide a blank check to facilitate refunds or payments.
