Meet at the Town Forest to celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree. Please use the Strout Avenue (Compost Center) entrance. Parking is available for the event.
To celebrate the 96th Anniversary of the Reading Town Forest, the Town Forest Committee, Department of Public Works, Reading Public Library, and Scout Troop 702 have a goal of planting 500 trees this year, and we need your help!
This will take place at the Town Forest with parking at the Compost Center on Strout Avenue. Participants will walk the trails to the planting area and get directions and supplies from the volunteer there.
This year’s planting will feature five native North American tree species: White Oak (Quercus alba), River Birch (Betula nigra), American Plum (Prunus americana), Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida), and Tulip Poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera). Each species was chosen for its ecological value and resilience, providing habitat, food for wildlife, and beauty for generations to come.
Registration (opens April 6), is requested to help manage limited parking. Please choose the shift that works best for you!

We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. To ask questions about accessibility or request accommodations, please contact the library at rdgadmin@noblenet.org.
If the Reading Public schools are closed due to snow, all Children's programming will be canceled.
