Why Not Wednesdays:The Art of the Renaissance Duel
with the Rapier
Wednesday, September 09
6:00pm - 8:30pm
Reading Public Library
Community Room (A & B).
Ready to learn the art of the duel with the iconic rapier? This class is perfect for adults looking to live out their Musketeer or swashbuckling fantasies! Learn how to move and swordfight like they did in the 16th and 17th Century. No prior fencing experience is necessary. The program will include a short fencing demo and then introduction/crash course with the rapier. Attendees will learn basic posture and footwork, fundamental offensive and defensive actions, and maybe even a specialty action or two. Run by Boston Academie d'Armes.
No gear or prior experience necessary. Attendees should dress in clothes comfortable for moving around in, such as athletic wear and sneakers. They should also bring any drinks and/or snacks they may want for the duration of class. Safety gear and swords will be provided by Boston Academie d'Armes; however if attendees have their own fencing safety gear, they are encouraged to bring it. Fencers with testicles are highly encouraged to wear rigid groin protection, such as an athletic cup.
This is a strenuous evening activity, so please keep that in mind when considering this program. Please register by emailing the Local History account at rdghist@noblenet.org. This program is designed for teens and adults aged 16+.
This program is brought to you through the generosity of the Friends of the Reading Public Library!
